What’s a Plus-Size Essential?

I got to thinking about what makes some plus-size woman look so great. Do you think they have a secret? Is it the whole “package” and impeccable grooming?
When it really comes down to it, my theory about other well-turned out plus women is that they make use of the very best foundation garments to smooth. Whether you’re a size 22 or a 32, if you have a smooth physique, you’ll look inifinitely better. Case in point: the gorgeous models over at Les Modeuses Rondes.
So tell me: what do you consider a plus-size essential when it comes to looking good?

I think it is attitude. No amount of the finest foundation garments are going to make us look like thin people. You look good because you feel good and if you don’t feel good - do what you need to do to feel good. It might be lose some weight, but it might be to just change your lifestyle a little bit - dump some stress and pick up something that makes you feel good about yourself.

Attitude is a big one! If you consider all the stuff a plus woman has to deal with, it’s all you’ve got at the end of the day. But I’m still think that a smooth physique (not skinny, but not bumpy and uncomfortable either) can boost your self esteem, and it’s not something you need to work on. . . you can slip into it right now. :)

YOu have hit the nail on the head. Plus sized women can actually carry off many looks that are impossible with less flesh. The right under garments can not only smooth but create curves in just the right places if you have the flesh available for it!
It’s something thinner people can’t do!

If I had a quarter for every plus woman who looked ravishing in a low-cut dress. . . (classic example but I can’t help it). WOW.

One of the essential ingredients towards having a finished look is a good, supportive under wired bra with a nice, seamless shape. Secondly, wearing all one color and picking classic, timeless pieces like great fitting dark jeans, wide legged pants, a slim black skirt, beautifully-tailored crisp white shirt. Quality rather than quantity and well-groomed, updated hair with a beautiful smile. I think too many of us wear things that don’t fit our body shape, i.e. ruffles on a large bust.
For example, I love Oprah’s taste in clothing, but she continually wears sleeves that are too tight for her and it makes her arms appear even larger. Wearing the right size garment is very important, even if it needs to be altered.

Hi Deborah! I agree that classics are the way to go, but if you just don’t have a taste for more simple items, it’s a constant push-pull to find something you love that makes you look good. I know– I have a somewhat suppressed funky side.

Deborah,
Another excellent point. All the great underpinnings were once called “foundations”. They served that purpose well. More women should make use of them
